About the curriculumAt Jack and Jill, children are given a variety of experiences so that they have the opportunity to grow and develop emotionally, physically and mentally. Our well-equipped school provides age appropriate experiences to encourage a child's development at two, three, four or five and continues to support them for the rest of their lives. Small group activities give opportunities for play - active, quiet, indoor or outdoor. We encourage exploration of the physical world through science, experimentation with art media and other creative material, dramatization of everyday experiences, rest, music, stories, and conversation. Teacher Kim provides a fun and nurturing environment for children to explore and feel safe. Jack and Jill is affiliated with the Bates Technical College Parent Education Program. Bates provides on-going professional development and support for our teacher as well as providing opportunities and resources to our families Parent InvolvementAt Jack and Jill we believe that parents are the most important single influence in the lives of children. They are the real teachers. We believe we can be of special value to parents by contributing to the growth and development of the young child. We strive to promote better understanding between home and school by developing strong relationships with our families. We encourage parents to visit the school, to talk with the teacher about their child, and to participate in the program fully. This includes parents working in the classroom and participating in the important decisions of school. That is what “co-op” is all about. We offer opportunities for parent conferences, discussions about parenting issues, fun activities for families and a lending library of books and pamphlets. Most of all we offer the desire to work with parents toward the better understanding and education of their children.
