Jack & Jill Co-op Preschool is organized, administered and operated by parents and a qualified teacher working together under the direction of a board. It is a school in which the whole family learns together.
Our school is affiliated with the Home and Family Life Center of Bates Technical College, and the Parent Child Preschool Counsel. A Board meeting is held every month. All business of the school is conducted at the Board meetings. All parents are welcome and strongly encouraged to attend these meetings. Elections to the Board are held in March of each year for the following school year. The Board is composed of elected and appointed member parents with the Teacher and Bates Coordinator as advisers.
As Jack & Jill Co-op Preschool members, you are part of a TEAM. In order for our school to function smoothly, parents are required to participate in all of the following activities:
- Attend orientation and parent training. (If enrolled after parent training, observe in classroom one time before your first scheduled work day and meet with the group leader of your class.)
- Participate as a working parent under the direction of the teacher. Arrange a substitute in case of unavoidable absence. Trading workdays with another parent in the class often resolves a schedule conflict. Any working parent who does not arrange for a substitute and does not work their scheduled workday will be scheduled to work an additional day the following month. At the end of each class session, all working parents are required to help with a quick cleaning of the school.
- Earn eight (8) Parent education credits per family each year. Earn one parent ed credit by attending a parent education event each month your child is enrolled. If you are unable to meet this requirement, contact the Parent Ed/Vice President for an acceptable alternative.
- Hold a board or committee position. Regular and special committees do the work, which keeps our school running. Contact Moira Cashman for a committee position that fits your interest.
- Assist with the three (3) social activities of the school: 1) Halloween "Trunk or Treat" party, 2) Valentine's "Dance", 3) Church Appreciation Tea
- Participate in ALL major fundraising activities. These vary from year to year based on budget considerations and will be communicated to you by the ways-and-means chair people.
- Help with clean-ups. Clean-ups are scheduled three times during the year (November, January & March), and before the school year begins (September).
- November clean-up is the responsibility of Group C.
- January clean-up is the responsibility of Group B
- March clean-up is the responsibility of Group A.
Failure to participate in these activities may be considered grounds for dismissal from Jack & Jill Co-Op Preschool |
